Covenant University, MiGO mobile join forces to drive indigenous tech innovation

Electronic technology hardware firm, MiGO Mobile, has entered into a strategic partnership with Covenant University, Ota, to strengthen research, innovation and skills development among Nigerian students, as part of efforts to deepen indigenous technology capacity and reduce reliance on imported devices.

The partnership was officially announced on January 29, 2026, during the launch of a Care and Research & Development (R&D) Centre and a scholarship awards ceremony held at the CUCRID Auditorium of the university.

As part of the collaboration, MiGO Mobile awarded scholarships and ambassadorial recognitions to outstanding students across different academic levels. One of the major beneficiaries, Ogunmola Olaoluwa Ayomide, a 100-level student, emerged as a MiGO Scholarship Awardee, securing a ₦2.2 million scholarship covering his education from 100 level to 500 level, with a total estimated value of over ₦10 million.

Other scholarship and ambassador award recipients included Ibiyemi Olaoluwa David (500L MiGO Scholarship Awardee); Osadare Anjolaoluwa Hephzibah (100L MiGO Ambassador Winner); Owonubi Isaac Oluwasemilore (200L Ambassador Winner); Odeleye Ifeoluwa Akorede (300L Ambassador Winner); and Anjola Oluwa Aniyikaye Oluwatunmise (400L Ambassador Winner).

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of MiGO Mobile, Mr. Ademola George, said the partnership represents a deliberate move to equip Nigerian students with cutting-edge technological skills while fostering a strong research and development culture within the academic environment.

According to him, the initiative is designed to prepare students for global competitiveness in technology manufacturing, innovation and device repairs.

“This partnership is about unlocking the potential of young minds and driving innovation in Nigeria. It reflects our commitment to building a better future through technology and education, in line with Covenant University’s vision,” George said.
He disclosed that MiGO Mobile manufactures a range of electronic products, including mobile phones, tablets, smart watches and power banks, adding that the company plans to make its products available at MTN outlets nationwide at affordable prices, beginning with pilot locations.

George further revealed that Covenant University students who undergo training at MiGO Mobile’s R&D centre would have opportunities for employment after graduation, particularly in gadget manufacturing and repairs.

“When you train a child, you train a community, and when you train a community, you train a nation. Our R&D centre will help produce skilled innovators who can drive Nigeria’s tech future,” he added.

On his part, the Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University, Prof. Timothy Anake, described the partnership as a transformational initiative aimed at producing industry-ready graduates equipped with practical competencies.

He explained that the R&D centre would function beyond a care facility, serving as a hands-on workshop where students gain exposure to technology production, entrepreneurship and business development.

“This centre will expose students to real-life industry operations, enabling them to set up and grow their own businesses while learning directly from a GSM producer, laptop manufacturer and smart device innovator,” Anake said.

Also speaking, the Registrar of Covenant University, Mr. Emmanuel Igban, noted that MiGO Mobile is more than a technology company, describing it as a ‘future developer.’
He added that the partnership would further strengthen the university’s scholarship framework and position beneficiaries and other students for leadership roles in Nigeria’s digital economy.

“This collaboration will expand opportunities for our scholarship awardees and help prepare our students to become key players in the next generation of digital leaders,” Igban stated.
